The Gunners are in the Tavern tonight and over a few drinks, they are discussing their most important players.

Last season was one to forget for Arsenal fans. For the first time since 1996, they finished outside of the top four in the Premier League.

Their team was inconsistent and at times didn’t play like they cared whether they finished first or last in the league.

Rumours of Arsene Wenger’s departure come the end of the season understandably didn’t help the team’s performances.

Following on from their FA Cup final victory over Chelsea those rumours were put to bed as Wenger signed a new two-year deal.

There were a few players who managed to take their team by the scruff of the neck and push on to get some positive results.

Without these key players, Arsenal could have wound up in a much worse position than fifth.

On that note, here are two players Arsenal simply could not function properly without.

Laurent Koscielny

All the Arsenal fans in the Tavern are happy to hear that their vice-captain has signed a contract extension until 2020, which will be his tenth year as a Gunner.

When he first joined in 2010, Koscielny was nothing like the player he is today, strong, smart and confident. Arsenal could not live without him in defence.

The best centre-back at the club by far and a leader to boot, Koscielny is one of the first names on Wenger’s team sheet.

Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez is easily the best Arsenal player since the days of Henry and the rest of the Invincibles.

Unfortunately, he is yet to sign a new deal at Arsenal as he approaches the last year of his contract.

Simply put, if he leaves Arsenal could fall apart on the pitch.

In the three years, he has been at the club he has become a fan favourite and the only player who can grab a game by the scruff of the neck and make a difference going forward.

Arsenal can’t lose him.
