Our Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that the board can beat their London rivals Arenal in a couple of signings this summer to kick-start an overhaul of the team.

The Blues are in much need of an overhaul of the team, much like the Gunners with both being linked to moves for Luis Enrique and Radja Nainggolan – which should be an interesting battle in the summer months.

However, our regulars feel that Chelsea are the club that need to sign the Belgian more, due to his winning mentality and vast experience over the years.

Chelsea are in dire straits at the moment, out of the top-four and not one member of the team is exactly covering themselves in glory this calendar year. Many of the punters had been calling for a revamp of the club for some time, with many of them getting tired of the constant chopping and changing every other season.

Our landlord feels that the Blues need to be aggressive in their action towards bringing Nainggolan to the club, and here are his TWO reasons why they simply must beat Arsenal to the punch…

Foundation

Nainggolan would be an ideal player to have in the centre of the park to build a team around, much like the days of Micheal Essien and Claude Makelele. If Conte is to stay on next season, a foundation from back to front needs to be laid, and a powerhouse in the middle would provide a fantastic core.

Chelsea desperately need another player to add to the midfield and Nainggolan for all his experience, would show some of that steel that he has shown in Roma’s quest for a Champions League trophy. Nainggolan is in his prime years and the smart move would be for the Serie A star, who commands the midfield with such authority, it could even help the defence.

Star quality

Chelsea are in a severe nosedive this year, having won only four Premier League games in 2018 and if things don’t improve drastically in the summer the Blues could be in Arsenal’s position next year. With that being said, the Blues need to cut the gap down between them and the top-four teams, and everyone in the pub is in agreeance that it could start with the Belgian.

As a bonus, to outmuscle your rival will give them the psychological edge going into the new season.
