So much better: What £13.5m-rated attacking target could do to Tottenham’s team this season

Share

Our Tottenham fans here in the Transfer Tavern will be hoping for at least one new face coming through the door this January.

Spurs have been linked with Bordeaux player Malcom throughout this window, however, former Spurs midfielder Gus Poyet has just taken over as manager of the French club and has near enough ruled out a move away for the Brazilian sensation. Indeed, this has led to reports of Spurs turning their attention to another Brazilian sensation, David Neres, who is currently on the books at Ajax and our regulars believe is one of the hottest prospects in Europe at the moment.

Our live-in statto at the end of the bar recalls Neres (rated at £13.50m by Transfermarkt) bagging himself eight goals and nine assists in his 17 appearances this season in the Eredivisie. With that in mind, our landlord takes a more in-depth look as to what Neres will bring to the Tottenham table should he make the move…

Neres is an attacking player who likes to come in from the right-hand side, he has crazy dribbling skills and when he cuts inside he can leave a defender for dead. He’s constantly looking forward and aiming to play that killer pass and with nine assists already this season he isn’t shy about supplying his teammates.

Having assisted in six of his last eight matches, a link up with Harry Kane could turn out to be the makings of a deadly duo.

His shot rate is approx one goal every three shots and, this type of return for a young striker is truly phenomenal. The Brazilian only recently moved to Ajax from Sao Paulo but ‘de Godenzonen’ will be looking to be heavily compensated for the quick-fire move, many of our regulars are hearing anything of £44m upwards.

Having been involved in a goal every 75 minutes of his playing time, it would surely be a huge coup if Pochettino can get this one over the line before January 31st.
