The Arsenal fans were feeling nostalgic in the Trasnfer Tavern last night after watching Olivier Giroud’s performance in Chelsea blue against West Bromwich albion.
Arsene Wenger was widely considered to have orchestrated one of Arsenal’s most productive mid-season windows in recent times when he brought three new players to the club last month. Arsenal welcomed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to the club in January, but they also allowed Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud to depart for rival Premier League clubs during the same period.
The latter’s departure was something of a necessary evil for Arsenal to complete the signing of Aubameyang, as Chelsea needed to replace Michy Batshuayi who moved on loan to Dortmund to replace the Emirates Stadium-bound Gabonese striker.
However, regardless of the circumstances, losing a player to a rival is never a desirable move to make, and the Arsenal supporters have shown signs of regret over the decision since watching Giroud in action for Chelsea last night.
Giroud (valued at £18 million by Transfermarkt) looked sharp last night at the spearhead of Chelsea’s attack during their 3-0 victory over West Bromwich Ablion in which he provided an assist for Eden Hazard’s opening goal, and the Arsenal supporters were looking on with envy due to the quality of the French internationals hold up play, movement and first-touch.
Aubameyang’s performances in the next few weeks might just force the Arsenal fans to forgot about their former hero, but until then Giroud’s presence will be sorely missed in North-London if the reaction on Twitter is anything to go by.

I also hate how so many failed to see the value of his play. That is how a big strong striker helps you…

I feel like we might come to regret letting Giroud go… he’s the best big old school striker (no.9) in the premier league and was a properly effective plan B #afc #giroud
