Sought After £12M Star Hails Liverpool As ‘A Dream Club’

Some transfers just seem to be nailed on, maybe not where the player moves too, but just the fact that the player will go somewhere.

When you have both player and agent claiming that there is a move on the cards it is normally not too far away, and to be fair in the case of Papiss Demba Cisse it seems about time he was moving on to bigger things, the Senegalese striker has been prolific in Germany for the past 15months and he has almost carried his team, Freiburg.  Well despite numerous clubs both in England and further afield being interested it appears that the players dream move would be to Liverpool.

Cisse has played in Europe for a while predominantly in France, he signed his first professional contract with Metz in 2005 at the age of 19, he was initially loaned to AS Cherbourg to gain experience before returning to play for Metz for 2 seasons where he was pretty successful.

When his side were relegated he spent another season out on loan before returning to his parent club for two more years and in that time he scored 24 in 57 games, and it was this form that got him a move to Bundesliga side SC Freiburg.

His form in a better team has been devastating, in his first season in the German top flight Cisse managed an impressive 6 goals in 16 games and he has been even more prolific this time around notching up 18 goals in 23 games so far this season.

Cisse is 6’0 and pretty useful in the air, he is quick and has a good finish too.  He works hard and takes up good positions in the penalty area, he is purely a striker and a goal scorer.  He has never played anywhere else and is essentially a poacher, but an extremely prolific one at that.  As well as being successful domestically he has also scored goals at international level, managing 7 goals in 8 appearances for Senegal.

There were strong rumours last Summer linking him with a move to Arsenal, and in January there were approaches from Fulham, Wolfsburg, Juventus, Villareal and Genoa – offers were thought to be around £10million but none of them ever came to anything.  Well in recent times 2 quotes have surfaced firstly from his agent, who has said:

“Freiburg do not want to sell, but they are a smaller club and will sell at the right price….They know the figure they want for him – but I cannot say it….They are ready to do business in the summer. But it isn’t just Premier League clubs who want him – there are clubs in Italy and Spain, too.”

The same reports claims that the price Freiburg would be willing to sell for is around £12million which really doesn’t seem too much when you consider his impressive scoring record in Germany.  The player however also has his own opinions and he has issued a come and get me plea to Liverpool, it is a good job they were one of the teams already interested! He has said:

“Liverpool is a dream club. Salif Diao and El Hadji Diouf have played there. But to be honest I am happy here at the moment….But you never know in football. Things can develop quickly.”

So Liverpool would be his dream club…..but because of Diouf and Salif Diao? Well hopefully for Liverpool fans if Kenny Dalglish does follow up his interest with an offer this Summer he will be a lot more successful for the club than the 2 former Senegalese internationals that the Merseyside club have employed.

Liverpool will face firm competition from Arsenal, Fulham and other clubs around Europe but should the player remain true to his words then he could be part of the Merseyside set up very soon.
