It feels as if we’ve only just waved goodbye to the transfer window, but in just over six weeks’ time, it will be reopened again, much to Southampton’s delight.
The Saints are in dire straits at the moment, languishing in the bottom three of the Premier League having won just two league top-flight matches all season.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side are in real danger of being relegated from the first tier as things stand, with last weekend’s home defeat to Everton a new low for the Hampshire club, who have not won at St. Mary’s since April.
The main issue surrounding Southampton’s demise this term is their terrible defence. The Saints have conceded more goals than any other team in the Premier League this time out (29), so desperately need to bring in some reinforcements when the transfer market opens once again in January.
The Mirror recently reported (via HITC) that Hasenhuttl will be allocated funds to strengthen his struggling squad in early 2020, with a ‘top-quality’ centre-back the main priority.
Here’s what some Saints supporters had to say about the club’s potential transfer plans on Twitter…
We will see. Could be more broken promises. A top CB in Jan will probably cost over 25m and I can’t see that happening

Let’s be honest, the papers are quoting ‘top quality’ but what that actually means is players costing £12-20m, who could reach top quality after 2-3 years of making their mistakes with #SaintsFC
And guess what’ll happen when/if they do reach top form…

We hear this most transfer windows though? #SaintsFC

Did the board or the manager not realise these were top priorities back in July . I know that the fans all did . Hope I’m wrong but feel it could be too little too late by then . This is assuming it’s even true ! #saintsfc

Well, let’s hope so and they help saints stay in the premiership. It could be an interesting 2nd half to our season IF we get who we want and start winning games with a win away at arsenal and 2 home wins after that.

It might be true. It might also be too late.
