Southampton: Fans flock to Adam Blackmore’s tweet

Many Southampton fans have flocked to the latest tweet from Adam Blackmore that recently emerged on social media.

The Radio Solent journalist recently tweeted about Danny Ings’ situation at Southampton. He said that there is still an offer on the table from the club which the player thinks is good.

However, he also claimed that with 18 months remaining on Ings’ current deal, it is ‘normal’ for the striker to potentially look at other options since he is now 28 and will want European football.

This comes after The Telegraph had reported that Ings indeed wants to return to a Champions League club and isn’t looking to extend his Southampton contract yet, even though the Saints are prepared to make him their best paid player in history. The article also stated that Ings is ‘holding off’ on a new deal just because he has the best possible chance to making a move.

The Athletic have also reported about the Englishman’s situation, saying that the contract issue revolves around a release clause in the new deal. They state that wages are not an issue for Ings, who fears the fact that if he signs a contract, Southampton would demand a high fee from top clubs. So to get rid of this issue, talks are in place to have a release clause in Ings’ new contract and Southampton have to strike a balance between not keeping the release clause too low and meeting Ings’ demands for it.

Speaking before Saints’ July 2020 clash with his side, former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe hailed Ings as an “outstanding” player, showing the fear he strikes into opposing teams. Blackmore’s tweet about Ings’ situation of course caught the attention of many Southampton fans, who gave their opinion about him.

What did Southampton fans make of Blackmore’s tweet?

“This is very frustrating but understand it to a degree. Danny can get CL here. I know for a fact Ryan was doing the same but no CL clubs have come in, so wants to stay. If the club matched his, and our ambition Adam, it would not be a problem. Straws and camels Ad.

“Is it? Essentially, IF he signs, it’ll only be because there’s nothing else out there…..a dangerous game by Mr Ings for a number of reasons.

“I think he, Ings wants to see if we sign the quality of players to play along side him, to push for Europe. It obviously sounds like that will not be the case. Ralph has a great core of players, but needs money to spend. Unfortunately r mystery owner, doesnt seem 2 think that way.”

“So frustrating. There’s no guarantee that you end up playing champions league football at a ‘top 6’ club anymore. Just look at Arsenal. We’re building something at saints, just do a Vardy and commit so we can encourage better players to do the same!
