Southampton: Fans react to being linked with Hull City’s Jarrod Bowen

Bowen

Southampton have been linked with a move for Hull City playmaker Jarrod Bowen for some time now.

The 22-year-old is one of the Championship’s hottest prospects and last season scored 22 goals in 46 appearances for the Tigers (via Transfermarkt).

This season, Bowen has already notched nine league goals and two assists for Hull, making him one of the division’s highest goalscorers at this stage of proceedings.

Southampton could certainly do with some extra firepower up front, with Danny Ings shouldering most of the goalscoring duties so far this term.

The former Liverpool forward has six to his name so far – four more than both Moussa Djenepo and James Ward-Prowse – who are the club’s current second-top goalscorers with two each (via BBC Sport).

Summer signing Che Adams has so far been a disappointment having failed to find the net in his opening 10 appearances for the club, thus making a move for a new striker in 2020 a viable option for the Saints. After all, they need all the help they can get to steer themselves clear of relegation this season.

Here’s what some Southampton fans had to say about the Jarrod Bowen rumours on Twitter; it’s fair to say that it’s brought out some mixed responses:

In an ideal world, yes. He’s a great talent. But we have very limited funds and a very porous defence. I think reinforcements at the back should be the priority, as boring as that is.

Is he the new Che Adams?

— Ch Howard-Williams (@French_Chris) November 3, 2019

Nope, seeing as we have a good crop of wingers even though we don’t play with them any more it seems pointless to add another to the mix 🤷🏼‍♂️

Yes, we could be in the championship next season so he & che Adams will be used to it. If we stay up this season they could both be useful.

Absolutely yes, depend on our funds. Bowen will surely be a perfect fit for Ralph as he can provide the goals from the attacking midfielder position, similar to Redmond. The only obstacle is can he overcome the gap between the Championship and the Premier League, though.

I agree our priorities are defence, midfield and then attack in that order but if the right player becomes available for the right price you have to go for it
