Southampton’s Cedric caused quite a stir when he revealed in an interview that he planned on leaving the club when his contract expired in the summer. The interview was conducted when the Saints were in the relegation zone, and fans didn’t take it well. However, things change quickly in football, and many fans are now keen for him to stay.
In the last two months, the Saints have beaten Leicester, Chelsea and Spurs, have drawn against Arsenal and they now sit in 12th place in the Premier League. Cedric has played 14 games for the club this season, including 90 minutes in each of those three big wins mentioned above. He’s also spoken out about his future at the club.
Speaking to the Daily Echo, he said: “I don’t have a contract and it’s obvious when you don’t have a contract you can’t stay even if you want to. I am completely focused on helping the team, so I won’t change that. This is definitely the most important thing.”
Southampton news aggregator Saints News and Views posted these quotes and the reaction to them was very different compared to the reaction to the original comments. Many fans replied to say how much they want him to stay at the club next season, and some urged the club to offer him a new deal.

Ok, so he’s not the player he once was and was pretty pants early season (but so was everyone else tbf), but he has shown enough in recent weeks to show he can still do it. Instead of signing an ‘unknown’ for £15m I am not sure why we wouldn’t sign up him up for another 2 years ?
