Some Southampton fans have been letting rip into Theo Walcott after his display in the 0-0 draw with Fulham in the Premier League.
Although Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team did manage to find the back of the net twice, including once via Walcott himself, both strikes were both ruled out by VAR, and aside from those chances, the Saints were pretty toothless on the day.
Should Southampton sign Walcott?
One player who did not have the best of games at all was Walcott, who recorded a very poor 5.6 overall rating on Sofascore, the worst out of anyone to have set foot on the pitch.
The former Arsenal man, currently on loan from Everton, also lost out on no fewer than 12 of his duels, and aside from his disallowed goal, he did not manage to record a single shot, key pass, accurate cross or long ball (Sofascore).
He also registered fewer touches in the match than his own goalkeeper in Alex McCarthy and also lost possession of the ball no fewer than 20 times (Sofascore).
Southampton fan reaction to Walcott display
These members of the St. Mary’s faithful ripped into his performance on Twitter, with one SFC supporter even describing one of his fouls as ‘silly’ in the match:
“He was though the whole front four were shocking in possession the amount of times it just bounces of them was a joke need to be sharper against west ham personally Walcott should be up top Moussa or Tella on the wing for that one.”
“Sooooo… Are we ready to have the ‘Theo Walcott has underperformed since returning to Southampton’ conversation yet? #saintsfc”
“Long off, Diallo off, Walcott off … don’t care who comes on #saintsfc”
“Silly foul from Walcott. Hard work was done. #saintsfc”
“Walcott has been below par today as well, some pretty poor touches and attempting too much at times, would like to see Tella and N’Lundulu get 25 mins #saintsfc”
“Been poor all season. People are blind sighted because “he’s one of own”
