Glenn Hoddle has said that Tottenham Hotspur should make a move for Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse.
Spurs urged to make Ward-Prowse move
Spurs lost Christian Eriksen last January, and he is a player they have not replaced. Ward-Prowse, meanwhile, has been in terrific form for the Saints so far this campaign, even earning an England call-up thanks to his performances.

Hoddle believes that Jose Mourinho should make a move for the 26-year-old, even if he thinks the Southampton star may not be the Portuguese’s first choice. He said:
“Someone like Bruno Fernandes. When Christian Eriksen was on song for two-and-a-bit seasons, he could hit those passes to Dele Alli or Harry Kane or whoever made those runs.
“I am not sure if it is Jose Mourinho’s style of player. They have some decent players there, but Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele are different, they run with the ball, they are holders of the ball. But someone who can hurt you with a pass, a real creative player.
“I have said it before, I do not think Jose would like him but the lad at Southampton, James Ward-Prowse, would be a major asset. Him and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg would be a nice balance.”
Monumental fee
Ward-Prowse has been a revelation so far this campaign for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side. He has four goals and four assists in 17 Premier League games this term, and he was called “fantastic” by the Austrian manager last year. He even received outstanding praise from Pep Guardiola, who called him the best free-kick taker he has ever seen.

Currently valued at £22.5m (Transfermarkt), it would surely take a monumental bid from Tottenham to convince Southampton to sell. After all, the Saints are currently level on points with Champions League-chasing Spurs, although the London outfit do have a game in hand. A European place for Southampton, at least, is a real possibility – Ward-Prowse is vital in terms of achieving that unlikely success.
