Southampton fans have been reacting to comments from Mario Lemina, who said he was too much of an individualist earlier in his career.
Lemina made the move to the St. Mary’s Stadium from Juventus, meaning he has a certain amount of pedigree. However, it never really worked for him on the south-coast. He managed just 52 appearances for the club (Transfermarkt) and, via loan spells at Galatasaray and Fulham, he finally departed permanently this summer.
His attitude was brought into question with the Saints (via This is Futbol), sometimes making him an unpopular player amongst the club’s supporters. However, in an interview with the Athletic, he has at least admitted his previous behaviour was wrong, and he should have been more worried about the team rather than just himself.
Should Southampton have kept Lemina?
The comments were shared on Twitter by @SaintsExtra, and it attracted plenty of attention from the supporters. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.
Let’s see what the fans had to say about the Lemina comments below
“This genuinely refreshing to hear. Shame too, if he’d had this attitude back in the day he could have been incredible”
“Excellent humble brag.”
“At least he’s honest”
“His ability was writing cheques his body couldn’t cash !!”
“I’d accept that honesty, if he had actually been our best player.”
“For sure…. And hence not passing the ball but trying to hang onto it tooooo long and then losing it and putting the whole team on the back foot”
In other news, Southampton fans want this man back at the club.
