Southampton keen on signing Mings

Southampton fans will feel slightly worried about their side’s current position in the Premier League as they’re at risk from falling into the relegation zone. Although, they only face one team from inside the top-six in the remainder of this season, so they’ll fancy their chances.

The Saints haven’t exactly had the best of luck in terms of injuries this season as their attacking options have been rather limited. But, it appears as if Ralph Hasenhuttl is eyeing up defensive reinforcements at this moment in time.

What’s the news?

Southampton are keen on signing Bournemouth’s Tyrone Mings in the summer, according to The Daily Mirror (17/03, page 72) (via HITC).

The Englishman is currently on loan at Championship side Aston Villa. He’s been one of the standout performers in the Championship since joining in January, with a step up to the Premier League on the horizon for the defender.

It’s understood that Aston Villa have an agreement with Bournemouth allowing them to match any rivals offers for Mings in the summer transfer window, but failing to secure promotion would make it difficult for them to compete.

The Verdict:

Tyrone Mings, who is valued at £3.15 million (by Transfermarkt), has surprised everyone in the Championship after returning from injury as he continues to lead by example at Villa Park.

Southampton fans will agree that Ralph Hasenhuttl could do with bringing in another central defender to provide more quality at the heart of the defence, as they’ve only kept one clean sheet in their last nine league matches.

Of course, Aston Villa and a number of other clubs may try and sign him in the summer transfer window, but Southampton have the resources and may have the Premier League status to attract him if they avoid relegation.

Southampton fans, do you want to see Mings at St Mary’s? Surely he’d be up there as one of the your best central defenders…
