Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern are excitedly discussing the possibility of a new striker arriving on the south coast, following the latest reports.
The Daily Mail states Southampton made a second approach to Serie A giants Napoli yesterday regarding the services of Italian forward Manolo Gabbiadini, who can play out wide and centrally in attack.
Claude Puel’s side were unsuccessful with an initial offer of £13m for the forward, with the Naples outfit demanding at least £18m, but a deal could be salvaged as the Saints made a fresh enquiry yesterday.
Napoli are open to cashing in on Gabbiadini this month, who has scored three goals in three games, but their asking price has already put-off Everton and West Brom, whilst German outfit Wolfsburg saw a loan bid turned down.
Given the striker’s impressive numbers, our landlord believes Southampton could go ahead and agree to Napoli’s demands as he feels it would be a good deal for the club – but many of the punters disagree.
Meanwhile, a handful of Saints fans by the snooker table here in the Transfer Tavern think this would be a silly amount of money to fork out for a player who is not first choice at his current club.
