Southampton will need to see things improve on the pitch quickly if they want to avoid a repeat of the relegation scrap they suffered last season.
Mark Hughes’ side managed to retain their Premier League status with the penultimate game of the campaign, however, things do not appear to have got too much better for them following the transfer window in the summer.
However, it appears the current manager could look to use January to try and bring another defender to St. Mary’s Stadium.
It has been stated by the Turkish media outlet that the Saints had an offer turned down for the 35-year-old in the summer, but Besiktas could be prepared to let him go in the winter as they are in need of money.

Pepe could be an excellent signing for a team like Southampton, despite the fact that his career is certainly entering the final stages.
The Portuguese centre-back is extremely experienced and could offer the Saints a sense of leadership, something they have been lacking for a long time.
With the fact that Besiktas could be willing to sell the veteran defender in January, Southampton could look to cash in on what could be a hugely inspired signing.
