Southampton are looking to add to their attacking options in the January transfer window and appear to have taken a keen interest in one man.
The Ghana international forward was playing in a Belgrade derby and managed to impress by scoring a fine header that meant Red Star and Partizan would both take a point.
The 25-year-old has been in red-hot form recently, having netted three times this season in just two league matches and Mark Hughes has already seen him in action up close and personal.
Boakye was playing for Chinese Super League outfit Jiangsu Suning in the summer and scored against Southampton in a pre-season friendly.
The Verdict:
Southampton have struggled in front of goal for a while now and despite the arrival of Danny Ings, they still need someone else to find the back of the net on a consistent basis.
Boakye could be that man as the 25-year-old has an impressive record when it comes to scoring – having bagged 42 goals in his 51 games for Red Star Belgrade.
However, it is worth noting that he will not come cheaply, as Jiangsu Suning have only recently signed him themselves and have sent him out on a two-year loan.
