The thing you need to know about the Football Transfer Tavern punters is, no matter what, they will never drop anything. I once tripped over a ‘Happy 50th’ balloon at an event we were hosting and I still get ‘banter’ for it now…it was three years ago.
With that in mind, it will come as no surprise to you, to hear that the Arsenal fans still get a right ol’ earful for believing that current Crystal Palace striker Marouane Chamakh was the answer to all their prayers.
I still remember November 2010; the tavern was screening the Aston Villa versus Arsenal game and I had popped in for a rare day off and I joined the punters and watched the whole game. Come full time I remember leaving the bar thinking that Chamakh chap could be on the verge of big things.
That was the Moroccan’s last goal for Arsenal for nearly four months…
Anyway, the former Bordeaux man has now moved across London and now pulls on the shirt for Crystal Palace *cue groans from the Palace fans over by the pool table*!
Despite moving clubs, poor ol’ Chamakh still seems to be the butt of all tavern jokes.
