Speaking to Football Insider, former Tottenham striker Darren Bent has tipped his old side to move ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Jack Grealish.
The Villa play-maker looks set to be one of the most in-demand players in the Premier League this summer, with United heavily linked with a big-money summer move.
Reports in recent days and weeks have suggested Spurs are also in the frame to lure the midfielder away from Villa Park, and Bent has backed his former side to edge out their rivals in the race to sign him.
He said: “When you look at teams that are also in for Jack, there’s a lot of talk about Manchester United and I think where Spurs might have the edge is they’re going to have the funds to do it.
“They’re not really linked with anybody else and I think they can get that done, relatively, quite comfortably. I’m hearing Manchester United linked with Jadon Sancho, Harry Kane, Grealish. For them to get all those players they’re going to have to spend upwards of £300m. I can see Spurs being the frontrunners and just getting him.”
There is certainly logic to the argument that United may have bigger priorities on their mind, like Sancho and Kane for example.
And having already completed a January deal for Bruno Fernandes, it’s difficult to see why or how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would consider a splurge on Grealish a wise move to take.

That could leave Spurs in the perfect position to pounce, and sign someone who could quite conceivably be a superb long-term replacement for Christian Eriksen who left back in January.
Grealish has registered an impressive nine goals and eight assists for Villa, and that level of creativity and threat from outside the number nine role could be crucial to a Spurs side who have been feeling the effects of being overly reliant on Kane.
