The Spurs supporters have been a miserable bunch this week here in the Football Transfer Tavern, following their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea last Sunday.
It was the club’s first league game at Wembley, with the home of football set to remain as the club’s temporary abode whilst White Hart Lane continues to undergo a revamp.
If results don’t go according to plan during the first month of the campaign their supporters will undoubtedly point towards a lack of summer investment from the club’s hierarchy.
It does however seem that things could pick up on the recruitment front and The Guardian are reporting that Ivory Coast right-back Serge Aurier could be about to arrive at the North Londoners.
One stumbling block to any deal edging towards completion is the player’s tw0-month prison sentence which is currently up-in-the-air, after the 24-year-old assaulted a police officer last year.
The player’s legal team are working hard on getting the player a suspended sentence, which would allow Aurier to move to Spurs, with the PSG player likely to pay a hefty fine and take part in community service instead.
The report states that terms have been agreed with Aurier and PSG and he would represent a coup for Spurs who are in the market for a right-sided defender following Kyle Walker’s departure to Manchester City this summer.
The Landlord’s Verdict
Aurier is clearly a bit of a rebel – the pending prison sentence hanging over his head tells you that.
Although we wouldn’t have characters of his sort in the Tavern on a Saturday evening, there is little to doubt that he is one of the very best right-back’s in world football.
Spurs desperately need some new players to appease a disgruntled bunch of supporters who have watched their rivals strengthen all summer, with Aurier just the man to pop a smile back on those faces.
