Tottenham are willing to offer Fulham young midfielder Josh Onomah as they look to finally get a deal for Ryan Sessegnon over the line.
The flying Fulham winger is edging ever nearer to completing a move to Spurs, but according to the Daily Mail, Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is willing to include Onomah as a deal sweetener to ensure the move is completed before this week’s deadline.
Onomah has featured for the Spurs first XI but has spent the last two seasons out on loan, with varying degrees of success during spells with both Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday.
Sessegnon has long been touted for a move away from Craven Cottage, and it looks like Spurs will finally be the club to land the talented teen, who impressed during Fulham’s promotion season before tailing off somewhat in the top flight last term.
The youngster would bring an element of pace and directness to the wide areas for Spurs, with a report from FootballBH detailing Sessegnon’s attacking prowess, highlighting the winger’s willingness to run with the ball given his 2.4 dribbles per game in the 17/18 season while he wasn’t far off with 1.9 a game last season.
Defender Juan Foyth was actually Tottenham’s top dribbler per game in the Premier League with just 1.6 (WhoScored) so bringing someone in who can carry that kind of threat so would add something new. In fact, no winger on the club’s books averaged more than Sessegnon, while left-back Danny Rose only registered 1.3 per game, so there does appear to be room for someone of his profile.
While it was a dreadful season for his club in the top tier last season, the Telegraph have previously talked up the England U21 man’s ability to take the game to the opposition.
This move makes sense for everyone involved. Tottenham would potentially land an exciting wonderkid while Fulham receive Onomah, who may be in for a better chance of first-team football if he moved to Craven Cottage.
According to the report, Scott Parker is an admirer of the Spurs midfielder despite his low standing in his former club’s pecking order, so perhaps he could develop on the banks of the River Thames while Sessegnon gets to work with Mauricio Pochettino, who has been noted for his work with young players.
