Spurs should look to re-sign these 3 players in January – Agreed?

Spurs are going well again this season and our resident Lilywhites fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are getting excited…

After going close to winning the title last year and securing Champions League football for this campaign, many were worried that with that extra European engagement they may not be able to do as well in the domestic season – but so far it hasn’t been a problem.

It’s early days of course but Spurs are unbeaten and sit four points off of early pace-setters Manchester City, ahead of the big clash between the two, and they know that if they can win the game they’ll be sending out a real statement.

It could be another successful season. Mauricio Pochettino will be happy with how things have gone so far too but he may feel some extra faces are needed as the season grinds on.

Our landlord is in agreement and reckons these three former faces could be just the ticket come January…

Jermain Defoe

With Harry Kane out at the moment, Spurs suddenly look short up top especially with Vincent Janssen not scoring.

If the new Dutch signing cannot find his feet then Pochettino will have to look for a quick fix – and that could come in the shape of former man Defoe.

He’s still scoring goals and would probably be up for the challenge at Spurs if they came calling.

Rafael Van Der Vaart

Van Der Vaart was a class act during his time at Spurs and made things happen alongside Luka Modric and Gareth Bale in an exciting side.

He never really had pace so his age wouldn’t be a problem if Spurs went for him, and he would likely be a good impact sub if they needed to unlock a stubborn defence.

Players like Dele Alli could learn a great deal from him too.

Dimitar Berbatov

Speaking of classy. Berbatov very rarely broke sweat at Spurs but left enough of an impression for Manchester United to sign him.

At 35 he’s getting on a bit, but with Kane out and Janssen an issue too – he could just come in for a short amount of time and chip in with some goals.

He glided across the turf at White Hart Lane and would offer Spurs a different dimension up top.
