Journalist Aden-Jay Wood has revealed that Sunderland are now 'interested' in signing Danny Rose on a free transfer.

The Lowdown: Mannone in?

The Wearside club have been working quietly on Transfer Deadline Day, with former goalkeeper Vito Mannone reportedly at their training ground with the view of completing a move to the Stadium of Light.

It now looks as if another player could potentially be coming through the doors before deadline, as the board continue to back new manager Tony Mowbray.

The Latest: Rose interest

Taking to Twitter, Wood has revealed that the Black Cats are also 'interested' in bringing Rose back to the club, after he became a free agent having had his contract at Watford terminated earlier today:

"Understand Sunderland are one of a number of clubs interested in signing former England international Danny Rose. Rose is a free agent after having his Watford contract terminated earlier today."

The Verdict: Smart move

Given that they would not have to pay a transfer fee to sign Rose, he would certainly be a smart last-minute addition for SAFC.

Of course, he already knows the club well already, having made 29 appearances for them in the 2012/13 season, scoring one goal and making one assist (Transfermarkt).

Mowbray only has one senior left-back in his squad at the moment in Dennis Cirkin, and so could certainly do with strengthening in that position.

Nonetheless, this potential deal will definitely be one to look out for as the hours tick by.
