It’s been a thoroughly miserable time of things for the Sunderland fans drowning their sorrows in the Transfer Tavern of late, watching their side endure the joint-worst start to a Premier League campaign of all time.
Looking weary on Wearside, it’s all the Black Cats at the bar can do not to throw in the towel already.
So, reports from the Daily Mirror suggesting top brass at Stadium of Light could do exactly that have only darkened the mood.
They suggest that those behind the scenes at the club could be considering selling prized assets such as Lamine Kone and Jordan Pickford in January, should dropping down into the Championship look like an inevitability.
Though Sunderland have seemingly always been able to pull off a great escape in the closing stages of the window, the nature of their dreadful start has people feeling far less optimistic.
Pickford, in particular, would be a huge loss after developing through their academy and making it all the way to the Premier League.
