It would be an understatement to say that the Scottish Premiership has been a stroll for Celtic this season.

The Bhoys are currently unbeaten this season after dropping just two points so far this season, winning a staggering twenty-six out of their twenty-eight games which has seen them race twenty-seven points clear at the top of the league.

Though it seems to be all rosy at Celtic Park currently, our Landlord has warned Brendan Rodgers’ men against complacency as has stated that next season but be the season that the green half of Glasgow really makes its mark on European football especially with the domestic competition being at such a low standard at this moment in time.

The resident Celtic fans in the Tavern could not agree more with their Landlord and they remember many a European night in the last ten years which has led to the discussion of which of those sides would do the best in Europe. Many punters believe that this current squad is as good as any but the debate has been very colourful in the Transfer Tavern with some many good players seemingly using a visit to Celtic Park as a stepping stone to further their careers.

The debate has almost come to an end and the Bhoys in the Tavern have drawn up this XI as their best line up from the last decade…

GK: Fraser Forster

The big goalkeeper initially arrived on Celtic Park on loan from Newcastle United in 2011 and established himself as a cult hero among Hoops fans memorably producing outstanding performances against Barcelona and Juventus in the 2012-13 season before leaving for Southampton for a fee of £10million in 2014.

RB: Andreas Hinkel

Hinkel edges out current right-back Mikael Lustig due to our Landlord’s recollection of the German’s stellar performance in the 2009/10 season where his two goal-line clearances against Dinamo Moscow made sure the Bhoys qualified for the Champions League that year.

CB: Gary Caldwell

The former captain of the club would play anywhere for the side but what Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern really appreciate is his ability as a centre back. Caldwell subsequently won the Football Writers Player of the Year for 2008/09 in what was a disappointing season for the Hoops as they saw arch-rivals Rangers win the Scottish Premiership.

CB: Virgil van Dijk

The Dutchman bought a solid presence to the Celtic back line with his ability to play out from the back. The £11.5million fee paid by Southampton to bring van Dijk to St Mary’s currently seems like an absolute steal, especially providing he may be worth £50million currently.

LB: Kieran Tierney

It may seem a madness to include Tierney in the best Celtic side of the last ten years but such is the admiration for the young left back by the Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern has seen him edge out Emilio Izaguirre and Lee Naylor.

DM: Scott Brown

There is no way Scott Brown cannot make this team according to our Landlord. A player that plays with his heart on his sleeve displaying passion every time he pulls a Celtic shirt on and our Landlord believes the £4.4 million fee paid to Hibernian in 2007 is still looking like a bargain 10 years is on.

RM: Shunsuke Nakamura

The Japanese wizard is still playing now at 38 years of age for Japanese club, Júbilo Iwata but Celtic was where he truly won the hearts of our resident fans in the Tavern.

His goal at Old Trafford in a 3-2 defeat for the Bhoys made him the first Japanese player to score in the Champions League but it was the return fixture at Celtic Park where he buried a 30 yard free-kick to win the game 1-0 is where the memory was made that Celtic fans hold so dear.

LM: Scott Sinclair

With five goals in his first five appearances for the club after joining last summer, Sinclair’s 18 goals this season has been him ranked by our resident Celtic fans among their other favourite, Aiden McGeady, in naming their best XI of the last 10 years.

CAM: Robbie Keane

A loan signing from Tottenham in January 2010, Keane managed to score 16 goals in 19 appearances making him the top scorer for the Bhoys that season despite only playing half a season for the club.

ST: Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink

In Vennegoor of Hesselink’s three seasons at Celtic Park, he managed to bring the fans two Premiership titles, most notably hitting form at the right time in the 2007/08 season which saw Celtic achieve the impossible and snatch the title from Rangers’ grasp in the last few weeks of the season.

ST: Leigh Griffiths

Though seemingly ousted by Moussa Dembele this season, Griffiths 40 goal season last year has not gone unnoticed by our Landlord who made the point to the Celtic fans in the Tavern to include the striker in their final XI.
