Our Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern today are hoping that Arsene Wenger can get his tactics and team selection spot on for the massive north London derby at dinner time.

It’s an all or nothing kind of game for the Gunners and they need to win to keep holding on to the coattails of their fiercest rivals, as both look to creep into the top-four spots late on in the season. Arsenal have a new attacking lineup and seemingly squad coherent after the sale of Alexis Sanchez, alongside two new arrivals coming into the team. After the performance against Everton last week, many of the regulars in the bar will be expecting more of the same free-flowing attacking football against Spurs.

However, Wenger needs to assess his squad and pick the right players, ones who are holding the team back or in general not adding to the teams quality. With that in mind, our landlord takes a look at TWO players that should be nowhere near the matchday squad today…

Petr Cech

It’s a big call from our regulars, but the No.1 goalkeeper has been showing signs of costly mistakes creeping into his game of late, and a few games out of the team may rejuvenate the 35-year-old.

No doubt that Cech has been a great ‘keeper of the years, but it seems now that time is catching up to him at this top level of the Premier League. Wenger, in the summer, should look to replace Cech for a younger option to guard the Arsenal goal.

However, for now, he needs to manage his current stopper right.

Danny Welbeck

The former Man United player hasn’t done a right lot at the Emirates, to be honest, and many of the United fans in the bar always thought he was overhyped. Indeed, it seems they have been proved right.

Although Welbeck is a good player, by now he should be pushing for a regular starting spot within the team but his lack of goals and general form have left him to remain inconsistent as ever. It may be the end of his Arsenal career with the two new signings and the re-emergence of Jack Wilshere in the side.
