Our Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping the latest rumours are true surrounding a possible new manager.

The ‘Wenger Out’ brigade are raising their voices a little higher after the Carabao Cup final debacle, in which the Gunners simply didn’t turn up and it summed up Arsene Wenger’s recent time in charge.

Many of the regulars struggled to sit through the whole game and a lot of them believed that it was the last time Wenger had the opportunity to lift some silverware. With Champions League qualification only possible via a Europa League win, it’s looking increasingly like Wenger could leave in the summer.

Former Chelsea chief Carlo Ancelotti is the latest name to be linked with replacing the long-serving manager at the Emirates. However, if the Italian comes in, our landlord expects a major revamp of the squad and it will surely start with these two players…

Danny Welbeck

The former Man United player has severely lost his confidence and more importantly his way at the Emirates over the seasons. Hampered by injuries and lack of form has seen Welbeck been regarded by many in the bar as a flop, despite some promising flashes.

With recent transfers in, it’s hard to see where Welbeck fits in the team apart from the bench and in case of an injury. He needs to move on for the sake of his own career, for both club and country.

Granit Xhaka

The midfielder has not been the player many of the Gunners in the bar had hoped he’d be. He has shown glimpses of it but on the whole, he’s been largely unimpressive, with many still wondering exactly what he offers even at his best. He can’t tackle and often passes sideways much to the annoyance of the barman, as well as the Emirates faithful as a whole.

Arsenal need a defensive midfielder to sure up the defence and balance out the squad, but Xhaka is not the man to move forward with under a new regime.
