The Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern are wondering how far their team can go next season, against their old rivals Celtic.

It is a difficult time to be a Rangers fan at the moment, your rivals Celtic just stormed the league unbeaten and beat you by a whopping 39 points.

However, when you take into consideration that was Rangers’ first season back in the top-flight, it doesn’t look so bad.

Now that the Gers don’t have Europa League football to worry about, following their qualifying round exit, Pedro Caixinha will be looking ahead to his first match-day squad in preparation for the season ahead.

Their goal will surely to be taking the top spot off of Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side but that is much easier said than done and Caixinha will need to be ruthless in picking his first match-day squad, to make sure he picks the best team possible that can compete with their old firm rivals….

Jordan Thompson

Since arriving from Manchester United on a free transfer back in 2015, Jordan Thompson has made just three appearances for the Rangers first team.

In the two seasons, he has been on the books at Rangers he has had two loan spells, with the most recent being at Raith Rovers in the third tier of Scottish football.

It’s looking unlikely that he’ll ever establish himself as a first team player in Caixinha’s side, especially on the opening day of the season.

Ryan Hardie

Another player who spent part of his season on loan at Raith Rovers, Ryan Hardie establishing himself in the first team also looks very unlikely.

Not a bad player, just not a Scottish Premiership winning player.

Playing in the same position as Kenny Miller and Alfredo Morelos, Hardie will most likely be sent on a series of loan spells until either Caixinha decides to sell the forward or his contract with the club runs out.
