Surely these 2 players won’t be in Rodgers’ first Celtic match-day squad next season

The Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern are very keen to see who their starting 11 will be come the start of the season.

Next season will be a very interesting one for Celtic and Brendan Rodgers.

They’re going in as undefeated champions of Scotland and Rodgers will be aiming to do much better in Europe this time round too.

With many good players at his disposal, there are obviously going to be some players that don’t make the cut and whilst it’s nothing personal, if you’re not good enough, you’re not good enough.

Rodgers has stars like Sinclair and Dembele at his disposal and for every top-quality talent, there is going to be someone who not only misses out on the starting 11, but the match day squad all together.

With that being said, here are TWO players who surely won’t feature in Brendan Rodgers’ first match-day squad next season…

Gary Mackay-Steven

Not loaned out, rarely in the match day squad last season, Gary Mackay-Steven hasn’t been utilised in the same way he was for Dundee United and unfortunately for him, that doesn’t look set to change with Celtic’s front line looking as strong as ever.

Mackey-Steven managed eight appearances last season, starting only four of them and never playing a full 90 minutes.

He clearly isn’t in Rodgers’ plans but should an injury come about, we may see him force his way into the first team.

Kundai Benyu

Kundai Benyu spent the entirety of last season out on loan at Aldershot Town from Ipswich, in the Vanarama National League.

That fact alone is enough to suggest that Brendan Rodgers will not be including the 19-year-old Englishman in his match squad on the opening day next season.

Whilst our landlord believes one day, Benyu could be something special, the youngster just isn’t ready to try and help Celtic defend their unbeaten run and it is likely he will be loaned out again next season.
