Surely these 2 stars have no future at Tottenham if Fernandes signs this summer

Share

Tottenham supporters in the Transfer Tavern are very much looking forward to their team’s trip to Premier League champions Chelsea on Sunday, with Spurs knowing that a win would move them eight points clear of the Blues in the race for Champions League qualification.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men sit fourth in the division after winning 18 of their 30 league matches this term, and they currently find themselves five points clear of the West London outfit with just eight matches of the season left to play. And having won each of their past four Premier League matches, and having not tasted defeat since December, spirits are high among our resident Tottenham supporters, with those fans well aware that victory over Antonio Conte’s Chelsea on Sunday would put them firmly on course for a third successive top four finish.

Subsequently, there are many happy Tottenham fans in the Tavern at present, several of whom are also hoping that their team can finally end a decade-long wait for some silverware this season, given they have reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Spurs supporters to get their teeth into, not least recent reports linking them with a big money move for Sporting midfielder Bruno Fernandes this summer.

The 23-year-old made the move to the Portuguese heavyweights back in the summer after a successful stint at Sampdoria, and he has since gone from strength to strength with the Primeira Liga giants by netting 13 goals and laying on 16 assists in 45 appearances for the club.

And reports suggest that Spurs are interested in bringing the Portugal international to North London this summer, yet if Fernandes were indeed to sign for the club during the close season, here are TWO stars who would surely have no future at Tottenham as a result…

Harry Winks

There was much expectation surrounding Harry Winks when he excelled on his senior England debut back in October, but the midfielder simply hasn’t kicked on since then.

The 22-year-old has failed to appear in Pochettino’s side in the Premier League since the turn of the year, with injuries certainly playing their part in his struggles in the last few months.

And with the likes of Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele, and Victor Wanyama in that midfield area, adding Fernandes, who is adept in a deeper role as well as a more forward position, will push Winks even further down the pecking order, and potentially out of the club altogether this summer.

Mousa Dembele

Mousa Dembele sees his contract expire at Tottenham in the summer of 2019, and given that he’ll turn 31 in July, Spurs could well seek to cash in on the influential midfielder come the end of the season.

The 30-year-old is without doubt one of Pochettino’s most important players and has certainly proven that at times this season, as he did for much of last term in their run to second place in the Premier League.

But with further midfield reinforcements possibly in the offing in the form of Fernandes this summer, the North London club could be tempted to let Dembele go and at least command a fee for his services were he not to agree a new deal.
