Sheffield Wednesday: Fans react to departures of Atdhe Nuhiu and Kieran Lee

Sheffield Wednesday had a few players whose contracts expired at the end of last season, including Kieran Lee and Atdhe Nuhiu, and the future of that pair had been uncertain before Garry Monk provided an update on the duo.

Speaking about the two players, Monk has said (via Dom Howson on Twitter): “At the moment, yes they are gone. I have huge respect for those two. They are great lads and fantastic to work with. At this moment in time, it is to move to a younger, more dynamic squad.”

The two have been tremendous servants for the club, as they have racked up 493 appearances between them, with Lee scoring 22 goals from midfield and Nuhiu netting 50 goals from the forward positions.

With the club already making five transfers in this window, there is less of a reliance on the duo and their wages have now been cleared off the Owls’ books, but it will be disappointing for many supporters of the club as the two made a valuable contribution in their time at Hillsborough.

“Younger!” Yet we sign Kachunga who’s 28. Yes he’s a few years younger. But my interpretation of “younger & dynamic” is players between 18-25.
