Football is currently not among the most important things in the world as recent developments have ensured various leagues will be postponed until further notice.
And while that has definitely proved to be a smart move in regards to everyone’s health and safety, there are also various problems that might arise from this unprecedented situation.
As things currently stand, many players whose contracts are expiring in the summer won’t even be playing until that happens and we also have no idea what will happen next. Will transfers even be possible in current circumstances?

The same can be said for Edinson Cavani. For one reason or the other, the great Uruguayan has been ostracised from Thomas Tuchel’s machine but that doesn’t really mean he’s not good anymore.
After all, someone with his track record, experience and eye for goal can certainly not lose all of that overnight. He was, however, close to joining Atletico Madrid in January. Maybe next time, Edi.
A fairly similar thing could be said for Olivier Giroud as Frank Lampard wasn’t really eager to throw him into the lineup in 2019/20. But his situation was slowly turning for the better before the league was put on hold.
And now with his contract expiring in a couple of months and no football to be played, we might just see this French World Cup winner part with the Blues.
The very same can be said for Pedro. Lampard’s revolution at Stamford Bridge has left many older players warming the bench or watching the games from the stands.
Pedro still has a role in this team but with his contract also being on the brink of expiry and some rumours linking him with a move away from Chelsea, this could be the last we see from him in a blue shirt.
Ah, Mario Gotze – how the mighty have fallen. Not that long ago he was the next big thing that was supposed to take Germany, and then the world, by storm.
Unfortunately, for one reason or the other, it never worked out for the attacking player and now he’s close to being out of contract and up for grabs for free. A big shame but also another chance to prove himself elsewhere.
Even though we are talking here about a seasoned veteran, there are certainly clubs that would take Chiellini in a heartbeat and at the end of the day, who can even blame them?
But are Juventus actually going to let him go just like that? Only time will tell but getting one of the best defenders of this generation for free is a steal if we’ve ever seen one.
The third Chelsea player on this list is the Brazilian winger, Willian. There’s been a lot of talk about him wanting to stay and then the Blues being reluctant to offer him a new contract for longer than just a single year.
He is getting older but it’s still difficult to argue against his ability, which he has demonstrated time and time again this season as well. Maybe Barcelona finally get their man this summer once his contract runs out. You know what they say, 100th time is the charm, eh?
Even though Daniel Levy managed to somehow persuade Toby Alderweireld to sign an extension, so far he wasn’t as lucky with the other part of his centre-back pairing, Jan Vertonghen.
And seeing how leaky Spurs have been in recent times, maybe this one should be a priority for Jose Mourinho and co.
Dries Mertens was hot property throughout the January transfer window and even though the forward ended up staying at Napoli, his contract hasn’t been renewed just yet.
Of course, there were whispers of both sides wanting to reach a new deal but nothing has happened since. They still have a couple of months to go, let’s see if they can do it.
As it currently stands, Paris Saint-Germain’s 35-year-old captain could be leaving the Parc des Princes this summer as his contract is due to run out as well.
We still don’t know whether the Saints will try and negotiate an extension but the defender is slowly but surely getting towards the twilight of his career.
