The 3 key mistakes Rangers have made in the past 5 years – Agreed?

Our bar staff and punters here at the Transfer Tavern are well aware of the turbulent time that Rangers have had in the past five years.

They went from the very top of Scottish football straight to the very bottom.

They had to literally re-form as Newco Rangers.

Many Celtic punters in particular feel that they should be stripped of their previous honours due to ‘technically’ being a new club.

With that being said it has been very clear to us here that Rangers have made a number of mistakes, which led to the downfall of the club.

They obviously have done a number of things right or so our landlord believes here as they are back in the big time.

The landlord does however feel along the way they have made some key mistakes to land them in the negative position they were in.

So, here are their THREE key mistakes of the past five years……

Mike Ashley

West Bromwich Albion v Newcastle United - Barclays Premier League

Allowing Mike Ashley anywhere near their club, was a mistake in itself for the Scottish club.

The owner of Newcastle United and Sports Direct.com; joined the club by loaning them money when they were already in a financial crisis, and remained to be in the dealings with the club till recently.

The club confirmed that they had in fact paid the £5 million loan off at the end of 2015.

But that’s not the biggest mistake, oh no! It turns put apparently the club continued their association with Ashley by loaning yet another £6.5 million from him in early 2016, clearly they didn’t learn.

Signing Philippe Senderos

So when you are struggling with your defenders, why not turn to an Arsenal and AC Milan reject?

Was it to try to match Celtic with their purchase of Kolo Toure?

Unlike Toure he isn’t quite to the same standard unfortunately for the Gers.

The former Swiss International proved it with his blatant hand ball, resulting in his red card during the first Old Firm derby of the SPFL.

The 31-year-old just isn’t quite the match even after just the one game it appears maybe he should just give up?

Failing to hold onto many household names

rangers

When Juventus found themselves in a similar situation of being demoted, they managed to maintain their biggest assets the likes of Buffon, Nedved and Trezeguet.

However, Rangers saw literally their whole squad leave when they found themselves demoted and not only that but they didn’t even get a penny for any of them, due to the issues with the club and their finances.

Way to add insult to injury for the former Scottish champions.

It took a while for the Gers to re-build to the side they currently have and are slowly but surely improving as they look to once again push their rivals Celtic for the title.

Rangers punters we want to hear from you! Do you agree with our landlord here at the Transfer Tavern? Are there more mistakes that were made? Let us know with your thoughts below!
