Tottenham fans were given some much needed reason to celebrate inside the Football Transfer Tavern this week, after a last minute winner against Southampton halted a run of two consecutive Premier League defeats.
It looked very much like becoming three defeats on the spin, when Adam Lallana put the Saints 2-0 up after 28 minutes at White Hart Lane.
But a double from Christian Eriksen and a great last minute Gylfi Sigurdsson strike completed a remarkable turnaround, and bought some much needed time for under fire boss Tim Sherwood.
Sherwood has not been shy of speaking his mind since replacing Andre Villas-Boas in December, questioning the character of his players following the 4-0 defeat to Chelsea just over two weeks ago.
But yesterday’s result has changed everything, and given Tottenham a slim chance of making the top four after all.
Sherwood’s side occupy fifth place in the Premier League, just six points behind Arsenal, having played a game more.
But the manner in which the Gunners collapsed to a 6-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday will give Sherwood’s side hope that a strong finish to the season may make the race for a top four finish a bit more exciting.
It has been a tough season for Tottenham overall, but Sunday’s late win was a moment to savour.
