Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are marvelling at the latest viral our landlord has provided for them and the Blues’ man of the moment Nemanja Matic is the player we are all talking about.

Matic was once again magnificent for the West London club in their Monday night victory over Stoke City away at the Britannia Stadium – something that few clubs actually manage to achieve – and the stats say it all.

When the Serbian international midfielder plays for Chelsea, their win percentage is nearly double that of when they are without him.

We certainly think that he is the best defensive midfielder to have played at Stamford Bridge since Claude Makelele who of course was a key part of Jose Mourinho’s success during his first spell in the Premier League.
