Here in the Transfer Tavern, we are delighted that it’s that time of the year again when the January transfer window is active and one of the sides we feel need to add to their squad is Scottish league leaders Celtic. The Bhoys have been amazing this season under Brendan Rodgers, though they need to try and add at least three more players to their squad.

Although the Hoops must have a sizable budget compared to the rest of Scotland, they still aren’t able to go out and bid £30-million for a player, so they have to be smart in what they do in the market.

In recent years they’ve looked to the football league in England to recruit, bringing in the likes of Gary Hooper, Joe Ledley and most recently Moussa Dembele and we know how well that’s worked out. So, perhaps Rodgers would be wise to explore such a market.

With that in mind, here are THREE exciting Football League players that Celtic should target next week…

MATTY CASH

Matty Cash has been superb for Nottingham Forest this season and at only 19-years-old, has an exciting future ahead of him.

With the likes of RB Leipzig rumoured to chasing the player, the Bhoys should act fast to bring him into the club.

Cash can play anywhere in the midfield which could be really useful for Celtic and perhaps a long term replacement for Patrick Roberts who is currently on loan from City.

CONOR HOURIHANE

Although not as young as Cash, Hourihane is an exciting player and, at 25-years-old, a move to a bigger club would be ideal for his career at this stage.

The Barnsley midfielder has been superb for an over achieving the Tykes in the Championship and is well deserving of a move to a bigger club.

Considering his age and club then the Bhoys could get themselves a bargain here.

JOSH MURPHY

Josh Murphy has been in superb form for an otherwise strangely inconsistent Norwich City during what has been an otherwise disappointing season for the Canaries.

Murphy was successful on a loan spell away from the club last season and he’s adapted well to life in the Championship and although the east Anglian outfit may well be reluctant to allow him to leave. Still, the prospect of potential Champions League football could easily tempt the player away from the Championship to pastures north of the border.
