The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to Arsene Wenger’s latest comments, suggesting that the Frenchman was forced out of the club after claiming that the timing was not really his decision. Last Friday, Wenger broke the silence on his future and declared he would be stepping down in summer.
Wenger effectively admits he was forced out of Arsenal. Asked why he is going now when he has a contract to 2019, he says: "The timing was not really my decision. For the rest, I have spoken about it already."

The legendary Frenchman will see his time at Arsenal football club come to an abrupt end in just a few weeks time as he draws the curtain on almost 22 years in charge at Highbury and The Emirates. The 68-year-old has had a fantastic career in London, even if the last few years have been tarnished by fan protests calling for him to be sacked. In his 22 years with the club he’s only missed out on Champions League football once and has managed to win three Premier League titles.
Looking at Wenger’s decision to step down from the club, it seems strange that after being given a contract until 2019 he’s deciding to walk a season early. However, the comments made could be used to explain that, as it could have been up to the men above him, namely Ivan Gazidis and Stan Kroenke, to decide whether he walks or not. The best thing for Arsenal to do now is to get behind their most successful ever manager for his final few games and then give their full support to the Frenchman’s successor.
