Many would never have thought that come the beginning of March, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool would be top of the Premier League – let alone be 22 points clear of the current champions Manchester City in the process. The German deserves plenty of credit for the job he has done on Merseyside over recent seasons, but the Reds have seen a dip in form as of late since the winter break.
With all being said, and the team only seeing two wins in their last five games since the break, who are the main two players that have disappointed Klopp with their recent performances?
Fabinho
Fábio Henrique Tavares, otherwise known as Fabinho, has been a colossus since his move to Merseyside from French outfit Monaco in May 2018 – with the 6ft2 Brazilian even being referred to as the world’s best defensive midfielder.
Since his return from an injury sustained back in November 2019 against Napoli in the Champions League, he has failed to continue his fine form that supporters saw during the first half of the season. Mohamed Salah
The Egyptian winger stormed the Premier League when he joined from AS Roma three seasons ago. He broke the record for most goals scored in a single season with an incredible 32 in 36 games in his first season back since his failed stint at Chelsea [Premier League].
Despite his incredible goalscoring form, Mo Salah has failed to show up in Liverpool’s recent games – most notably in the defeats to Atletico Madrid, Watford, and Chelsea. After recording a 5.86/10 WhoScored rating at the Wanda Metropolitano, a 5.65/10 at Vicarage Road, and a 5.97/10 when coming on in the 79th minute at Stamford Bridge, it is safe to say the winger has failed to make an impact.
To rub more salt in the wounds – Salah failed to register a single shot on target over the same three games against Atletico, Watford, and Chelsea.
