Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern have been hoping that their side will be able to get their title challenge back on track in recent weeks, however difficult it currently looks.

Following a tough period in the middle of the first half of the season, Chelsea was winless in four matches in all competitions. Having been pushed out of the top four and with things not looking too rosy at Stamford Bridge, some fans were looking at how Antonio Conte had been let down by the Chelsea board in the summer transfer window.

Still, rather than blaming Conte or the board, many of our regulars have been discussing which players had been letting the Italian down. Though Chelsea have mostly looked good, a few individuals have been poor this term, and in recent weeks, they’ve found game time increasingly tough to come by.

Conte will want to note their names down as he looks to improve his team in January.

With that said, these 2 Chelsea players have really let Conte down this season…

Michy Batshuayi

The Belgian scored two goals to turn the Watford game around this season but that’s pretty much it, and in Alvaro Morata’s absence at points this year, he should have stepped up to the plate a lot more.

He has one of the best goals to minutes ratio in the league but he doesn’t do it on a consistent level, and you can’t ever see him being a Chelsea regular starter. Instead, he seems to be more of a cup match type of player.

Seemingly unable to hold the ball up when deployed as a lone central striker, it doesn’t seem like he’ll ever truly be trusted by Conte, and he has really disappointed our resident Blues.

David Luiz

The Brazilian is a marmite player. He splits opinion even amongst the Chelsea fans – he can either score a worldie to secure a win or he can make a huge mistake to cost them the game.

You never really know what you’ll get on match day out of him, much to the frustration of the Blues in our bar. This inconsistency has more than likely led to the bust-up between himself and Conte which has seen the defender left out of several games towards the end of the calender year.

A player of his experience should know how to work a game by now. Sometimes he is reckless in a challenge, sometimes he just goes missing out of position – but he’s proven his unreliability this year.
