Our Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are happy with the business Antonio Conte has done in this winter window.

Chelsea was in need of some desperate reinforcements in key areas of the pitch this transfer window, with three signings in, the Blues in the pub will be happy. Conte, for large parts of the season, has had to deal with a threadbare squad due to injuries and suspensions, while his team has been fatiguing the January window came about just in time. A couple of incomings and outgoing has brought a freshness to the squad.

However, there are a couple of players that should have left the Stamford Bridge exit door in order to sustain their careers and World Cup chances.

Our landlord takes a look at two players that should have pushed through a move last month and now fear missing out of summer football in Russia…

David Luiz

The Brazilian had earlier in the season drifted from Conte’s plans after the pair were reportedly involved in a bust-up over tactics. Ever since then, after an injury, the Brazilian defender has struggled to find a regular place in the team with young Andreas Christensen taking his chance in the team.

If Luiz wants to go to possibly his last World Cup, he should have taken a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Tiemoué Bakayoko

The French defensive midfielder has featured for the majority of his first season for the Blues, however, he seems to be largely ineffective in Conte’s current formation.

In order to add to his one cap for France, maybe a winter move away from Stamford Bridge could have benefitted the midfielder despite only signing for the Blues in summer. Some players can take to the Premier League and some can’t, maybe Bakayoko is the latter.
