Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern will hope a break from the rigours of Premier League football can serve as a good break for many of their players.

Following the defeat to Manchester United, it seems that Liverpool are in a fight to finish third with Spurs hot on their heels. Even though this is not ideal, Jurgen Klopp must settle for a Champions League spot as a minimum, if he wants to build on the success of this year going into next season.

Liverpool have set Europe alight with their dazzling displays and their occasional cricket score matches. Klopp has got them playing like a dangerous outfit and many in the bar feel that he is one, possibly two signings away from turning the Reds into genuine title contenders.

With the international break on the horizon, this will be the final opportunity for the Liverpool players to reflect before the season reaches its climax, and our landlord thinks that its time for a few players to have a long hard look back at their season so far.

With that said, these 2 Liverpool players seriously need to look at themselves during the international break…

Simon Mignolet

The goalkeeper has seemingly lost out on the season-long battle for the number one spot for Liverpool. All campaign, Klopp has switched between himself and Loris Karius to try and figure out who can cement their spot.

With neither taking the reigns until recently, it’s looking likely that the Belgian’s Liverpool career may be coming to an end. Unless he uses this break to pick up his game and prove to Klopp why he should stay.

Over the next week or so, he genuinely needs to either work out a way to get back into the team, or he’ll need to be having a think about his future. He hasn’t been good enough this season, and he needs to recognise that.

Adam Lallana

The former Southampton midfielder is still on his road back from an injury that kept him out of the side for some while. However, places for the midfield berth are highly competitive and Lallana has to put the work in to get in Klopp’s starting eleven.

Lallana would do well to knuckle down and get some minutes in if he harbours any chance of being in the England squad come summer for the World Cup.

Whilst many are, unsurprisingly, excited about his return, the Englishman has yet to really show what he can do, and that is a worry for Jurgen Klopp. He needs to step up or step off.
