Middlesbrough’s season hasn’t gone to plan and our landlord here at the Transfer Tavern felt they made a brilliant start, but have started to falter and now find themselves in a relegation battle!

But this article isn’t looking at the ongoing situation currently at the Riverside, we are looking at the future of the club and who they have in their ranks as potential future captains of the club.

We’ve already seen just how good their academy is with some of the players they’ve produced over the years, most recently their current captain Ben Gibson who is sparking all kinds of interest from bigger clubs.

Although if he doesn’t stay at the club for many more seasons, it’s likely the top brass at Boro have someone in mind to step up when he’s no longer there.

Although we don’t have a mystic ball that can see into the future here at the bar, we can fathom a guess as to who may one day lead out the Boro at the Riverside!

So with that in mind, our landlord thinks these TWO Middlesbrough starlets definitely have the potential to be a future captain at the club…

DAEL FRY

At the age of just 19, Fry has already featured in the Boro first team as well as a stint on loan at Rotherham.

He’s already led their under-23 side and there is no reason why his natural leadership qualities cannot be utilised by the first team in the not so distant future. Watch this space.

MATHEW ELSDON

Who? Some of our punters may ask, well Matthew Elsdon is a regular in the youth set-ups at Boro and he’s quite the talented defender.

He’s a Boro-born boy and show a lot of the same leadership characteristics similar to Ben Gibson.

Elsdon has a passion for the club and has been capped at numerous youth levels for England.

One to watch in the future for sure!
