These 2 players could follow Van Dijk to Liverpool in January

There’s a sense of inevitability here in the Transfer Tavern amongst the Southampton and Liverpool fans this morning, with Virgil Van Dijk being linked with a move to Anfield.

The former Celtic centre half was in inspired form at the weekend as he put on a defensive masterclass at the back for the south coast to ensure a clean sheet against an, up until then, free-scoring Liverpool team.

Indeed, as soon as it became apparent that Van Dijk was just going to be impassable on the day, many here in the Transfer Tavern began to make jokes that he would soon be on his way to Liverpool, as so many before him have made that trip.

The likes of Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne and Sadio Mane are just some of the players to have swapped the Solent for the Mersey in recent years and now the suggestion is the Dutchman will make the same journey north.

He may not be the only player to move to Anfield in January, though, here are TWO more our landlord reckons could make the move…

The Ligue 1 based winger is a very powerful and fast player, a combination which Liverpool have already benefitted from this season.

Sadio Mane was bought in the summer to add just those factors to the Reds’ front line and that has gone absolutely brilliantly so far.

Jurgen Klopp may feel it’s time to double up on such qualities, then, and transfermarketweb reckons the deal could be on.

Sam McQueen

Sam McQueens

Another Southampton player but when has that ever perturbed Liverpool before?

When the Saints saw Ryan Bertrand and Matt Targett get earlier this season they needed another option at left back and so the youngster McQueen was asked to step in.

He performed well, too, and caught the attention of many so with Liverpool still needing a left back and reports suggesting it’s on, watch this space.
