The Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern are an expectant bunch yet again this season, as they hope to see their side finally end their 13-year wait to secure the Premier League title.
Arsene Wenger came under fire here in the Tavern from the Gunners faithful, after some average form towards the end of the season saw Leicester City steal a march at the top of the league and subsequently going on to win the title.
This season has started well for the Gunners, however, and they are beginning to look like the real deal this season after a solid start to the campaign.
The Gunners have already had some pretty positive results and will hope to continue such momentum into the second half of the 2016/17 season.
Despite such a good start to the campaign there has naturally been the odd blip along the way and Tavern writer Lee Clarke takes a look at two players who have let the Gunners down this season.
Mesut Ozil
Although the German international is deemed something of a messiah by the Arsenal faithful, he hasn’t exactly started this season well at all.
The 28-year-old is in the side to provide the team with assists, but with the season now almost four-months-old, Ozil is still to register his first assist of the season.
One Arsenal fan is sat at the bar chatting away to some of the landlord’s regular drinkers and he thinks that Ozil will come good, although he does concede that his lack of assists is something of a worry at the moment.
Nacho Monreal
The Spanish left-back looked in good form towards the back end of last season, although he has been unable to continue his good form into the new campaign.
Monreal is 30-years-old now and his performances on the left-hand side of the Gunners’ defence this season have been enough to suggest that the defender is slowly on the decline.
One Arsenal fan is getting stuck into the Tavern’s beer and a burger meal deal offer and he thinks that Arsene Wenger should go and sign a left-back during the January transfer window, if he is serious about actually winning the title this season.
