The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern today are hoping that Arsene Wenger can bring a bit of stability at the back of the team in this window.

After finally putting an end to the Sanchez fiasco, Wenger can now move his team on and towards what he’ll be hoping is, his first bit of silverware of the season in the Carabao Cup, coincidentally his potential first time of winning the trophy.

Arsenal have long been in need of strengthening the spine of the team, our regulars often mention that Wenger seems to buy the same type of players in every window without ever progressing past FA Cup wins. The fans want to see the old Arsenal that tore teams apart in 2004 with a mix of skill and brute force in the centre of the park, though for that, they will need a much strong defence.

West Brom star Jonny Evans is reportedly likely to join the Emirates giants, a popular potential deal and one that’d see Le Prof strengthen his backline.

With that in mind, our landlord takes a look at two potential incomings Wenger should look at bringing in to really give the Arsenal team a whole new look going into February…

Jack Butland

With Petr Cech ageing and no real quality back up to take his place, Wenger should start to turn his attention to the goalkeeping problem that could potentially be left if and when Cech decides the time is up.

Very much like his time at Chelsea when Thibaut Courtois came in and replaced Cech, Wenger needs to do likewise it feels at this moment in time. Butland wouldn’t be cup-tied in Europe and is an England international so would come with some much-needed experience and quite possibly on the cheap in terms of the current fees paid out in transfers.

Wilfred Ndidi

The Leicester man is only 21 but is making a name for himself in the Premier League. He thrives on tackling and breaking down the play and with a relatively high pass rate he seems Arsenals answer to the defensive midfield option.

Again with Premier League experience he wouldn’t need time to adjust to life in England, but could have the same kind of impact former Leicester teammate N’Golo Kante has had Chelsea. Wenger desperately needs a calm and assured rock in the certain of the park, and the answer could be lying with the former league champions.
