These 2 players should follow Stuart Armstrong to Southampton this summer

Southampton supporters in the Transfer Tavern are excited to see how their team performs under the management of Mauricio Pellegrino.

Our resident Saints fans are expecting an important summer window following the appointment of Claude Puel’s successor, Mauricio Pellegrino.

Jan Bednarek became the manager’s first signing last week, arriving for an undisclosed fee from Lech Poznan.

The newly-appointed Saints chief also allowed the transfer of Jay Rodriguez to West Bromwich Albion.

Rodriguez won’t be the only Saints departure this transfer window. Defender Jason McCarthy has already left the club to join Barnsley, with a few more expected to leave.

For the time being, the Saints’ focus is placed on incomings, and Stuart Armstrong is one potential transfer that has dominated the headlines in recent days.

Our landlord has decided to assess two players who should follow Armstrong’s path to the south coast this Summer window.

Deyverson

The Levante forward is accustomed to playing under Pellegrino’s cultured guidance, having spent the duration of the last season on loan at Alaves.

Indeed, the 26-year-old testified his status as a key player for the newly-promoted Spanish outfit that finished 9th in La Liga and also reached the final of the Copa Del Rey – only defeated by the mighty Barcelona.

Levante’s Brazilian forward scored a respectable total of seven league goals, and surrounded with greater talent and creativity – as the Southampton players possess – it is likely that this figure could increase to double digits.

With Rodriguez’s recent departure, the Saints are in need of a striker, and the age of 26, one could argue that Deyverson has yet to reach the peak of his footballing ability.

It would also be exceedingly useful for Pellegrino to have a familiar face as he begins a new chapter of his managerial career.

Jetro Willems

With interest rapidly increasing in the services of Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand, the club should be eagerly identifying potential replacements.

One such player is PSV’s Dutch left-back, Jetro Willems.   Despite being the subject of substantial interest from AS Roma, the 23-year-old would be an incredibly exciting proposition for the Saints if Bertrand does choose to depart the club this summer.

Accordingly, the club should be preparing to hijack Roma’s move for the Netherlands international.

The full-back is the complete package, his defensive concentration is exceptionally good, and his attacking contributions is even better. Willems’ ability cross the ball is magnificent, and he exhibits terrific passing and dribbling ability. He will be a significant coup for the Saints if they choose to sign the Dutchman.

Saints fans, are you happy with these transfers? Let us know!
