Our Tottenham fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping to take a step closer to Mauricio Pochettino’s first piece of silverware, in the shape of the FA Cup.
Spurs will be hoping to overcome a potential cup upset against lowly Newport County with relative ease today. Pochettino may afford the luxury of a little squad rotation, although he will not want to take the opposition too lightly say our regulars, after seeing what happened to Leeds United in the last round.
Indeed, an away day in the cup, against a lower league team as always been the making for the story of the round, and to really light the magic of the FA Cup.
With that in mind, Pochettino would be foolish not to try to put Newport away early doors and, by bringing in some fringe players who have got something to prove, may be a shrewd move by the Argentine coach.
Having said that, our landlord takes a look at two players he has in mind to get some much needed minutes under their belts…
Erik Lamela

Lamela hasn’t got many minutes under his belt this season, having made a comeback in the late months of 2017 from a long-term injury. Mainly being used as a late substitute, Lamela will look to start from the start to impress fellow Argentine enough to give him more of a part of the team in the second half of the season.
Lamela is something Spurs need, he provides and offers something different to what they currently and could use the Newport match to emphasise that point.
Juan Foyth

The centre-back is yet to start in the Premier League but has made a handful of appearance in the cup competitions. Despite Spurs having a mini-crisis at the back, Foyth has been overlooked by Pochettino, and many of regulars believe it’s because the 19-year-old doesn’t seem ready for an extended run in the team.
So, with that in mind, Foyth has the chance to prove Pochettino wrong with an all-star performance against Newport and really stamp his name in the first team.
