The West Ham fans at the Transfer Tavern will definitely be wanting a better season this time around.
Given how well the 2015/16 season went for them, 2016/17 was most certainly a season to forget for West Ham fans. With their French superstar, Dimitri Payet leaving in January of last season, everything that could have gone wrong for them, did. Their new stadium didn’t bring in the players or the performances they’d have hoped for and after a seventh-place finish in 2016, they ended up 11th last season, behind West Brom, Bournemouth and Southampton. Now one season isn’t enough to warrant everyone saying West Ham should be pushing for Europe or the top four but you’d expect better from such a legendary side in English football.

Some players may have underperformed for The Hammers last season but that’s not to say they’re bad players, whilst some performed quite well and didn’t get the recognition they deserved due to everyone’s attention being turned towards the bad rather than the good. With that being said, here are two underrated West Ham players who could play a huge role in their successes next season.
Enner Valencia
The Ecuadorian striker has, to put it bluntly, had a terrible time in England since his transfer to West Ham three years ago. An unsuccessful loan spell at Everton followed and it’s looking like West Ham will look to get rid of him at any costs, but out landlord thinks he should stay. On paper, he’s a very good centre forward, he’s fast physical and good on the ball. Why it hasn’t worked out for him is anyone’s guess, well West Ham fans’ guess would be that he’s lazy and that may be true but he certainly has untapped potential if he applied himself.
Robert Snodgrass
Now the inclusion of Robert Snodgrass on this list does not mean that he is a bad player, in fact, it’s quite the opposite. Snodgrass can get you goals, assists and, is a very capable set piece taker, something that seems to be missing for most teams nowadays. The 2017/18 season will be the right winger’s first full season as a Hammer and he could prove to have a very big impact.
