The Hammers’ squad really has improved in that time, and the Tavern’s regular punters would have found it very unrealistic to think that they would be challenging for places in a European competition.
A big reason behind West Ham’s recent success is the signings that David Gold and Sullivan have been able to get in.
This season has seen them sign some relatively big name players this season such as Sofiane Feghouli and Simone Zaza, and the Hammers will be hoping that their new signings will be able to match the performance of some of the other players, who have come into the squad in recent times.

When he first came to West Ham in the summer of the 2013-14 season, he was Jussi Jaaskelainen’s understudy.
It didn’t take him too long to get in the team though and since he was given his chance to start between the sticks for West Ham, he hasn’t let his first team position slip.
He has done very well for West Ham, just broken into the Spain squad, and to get someone who has done so well for free is a great piece of business.
Aaron Cresswell
Before Aaron Cresswell picked up an injury in pre season, he was an ever present in the West Ham starting line-up and hardly ever missed a game.
He has won different awards at the club’s award ceremonies, including Hammer of the Year after his first season.
When he first came to the club from Ipswich, there were doubts from some about whether he would be able to deal with the Premier League, however he has managed to become one of the best left backs in the league.
Dimitri Payet
In the current market, £12 million for Dimitri Payet is an absolute steal.
He has become a hero since joining the Hammers and will go down with players such as Carlos Tevez and Paolo Di Canio, as one of the most exciting players in the club’s recent history.
West Ham have done equally as well to keep him as they did to get him in the first place.
