There was a few bleary eyes here in the Transfer Tavern today, after the Chelsea fans were up all night watching the drama unfold on Deadline Day.

Their club were one of the most busy of all right up until the deadline as both Marcos Alonso and David Luiz secured deals at Stamford Bridge.

It remains to be seen how the pair get on in their new surroundings, well new for Alonso anyway, as they join N’Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi as the first imports under new manager Antonio Conte.

They join stars like Eden Hazard, Diego Costa and John Terry at the Bridge as they look to forget last season’s poor showing, and whilst the big names get the attention for the good start they’ve had this season, there’s a few that deserve more credit.

Willian

Last season was rubbish for a lot of people concerned with Chelsea, but Willian was not one of them.

The Brazilian winger had a top year and deserves more credit for plugging away and still producing when all those around him downed tools.

He may go back into the shadows of Eden Hazard, but he shouldn’t be simply forgotten as there’s no doubt in the big games he’ll be relied on once more.

Cesar Azpilicueta

The Spaniard is one of the best left-backs in the league and that isn’t even his strongest position, which tells you all you need to know about his talent.

It’s likely now he’ll move over to his favoured right side ahead of Branislav Ivanovic, due to the arrival of Marcos Alonso, so it’ll be interesting to see now just how good he can be.

He’s a top defender and the Blues would miss him a lot if he went.

N’Golo Kante

He hasn’t been at the club long but he really is top drawer.

Yes, he received a lot of adulation for his performances for Leicester last season as they won the league, but that still didn’t seem to do justice to the job he does.

He plays in that midfield role like very few players can, with his relentless energy and tenacity and whilst Hazard and Costa will get the headlines if Chelsea win the league, the real reason could be Kante.
