These 3 Chelsea players are very overrated – Agreed?

The Chelsea supporters at the Football Transfer Tavern bar are very confident about how they are going to be doing this season, after they have recruited both a new manager and a selection of new players.

Their squad looks very strong ahead of the new season, but it is questionable whether they are all as good as everyone thinks.

It is undoubted that they have a squad full of talent, but there is a lot of debate in the tavern surrounding the quality of certain members of the Chelsea squad.

Chelsea supporters will defend their players of course, but the consensus in the Tavern is that there are certain players at the club are simply not good enough.

The landlord has highlighted THREE Chelsea stars that he and others in the Football Transfer Tavern think are overrated.

Do you agree with these picks? Let us know below!

 Branislav Ivanovic

Ivanovic

The Serbian international has been a brilliant servant to Chelsea over the years, but it is his age is starting to catch up with him.

Ivanovic has been playing at right back for a while now and no longer seems to have the same power and presence as he used to.

As well as this, he isn’t capable of putting quality balls into the box regularly – as a full-back at a club such as Chelsea should be able to.

His starting place could be under threat, as Marcos Alonso’s arrival could allow Cesar Azpilicueta to move over to right back.

Our landlord thinks that a Chelsea departure could soon follow…

 David Luiz

David Luiz

There is no doubt that David Luiz is very good technically, however his defending ability – which should always be his priority – is questionable at best.

He was able to get away with it at PSG, as he had quality players around him and less quality opposition facing him – but if he is deployed at centre-back in the Premier League then his defensive deficiencies could be exploited.

It will be very interesting to see how Conte opts to use his new man, as it could dictate how well the Brazilian does. Our bar staff arent sure a role in the heart of the Chelsea defence will suit him…

 Cesc Fabregas

Fabregas

Fabregas is clearly a very good technical player, but it is understandable however why Antonio Conte has left him out at times this season. Our landlord thinks that the shock and outrage produced by some in response to the decision is unjustified.

Conte’s style at Chelsea requires high energy midfielders who are willing to work tirelessly for the team and while Fabregas is a good player, he isn’t good enough to jeopardise the manager’s whole game plan.

It could be expected that against the bigger teams the Spaniard will be used as a substitute, rather than as one of Chelsea’s main men.
